Identify a poorly coded plugin with a client-side&nbsp;analysis<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first move to identify the critical causes of slowness for your site, is a front-end scan of your page with one of the available web performance tools. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to get&nbsp;a more accurate&nbsp;result, before launching your test you should deactivate your cache plugin. <\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>The Tools<\/b><\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pingdom<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dareboost<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WebPagetest<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yslow (install it on your browser)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For my tests, I\u2019m going to use Pingdom, since&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it\u2019s fast to use and presents the results in an easily readable format.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/pingdom.png\" alt=\"\"><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, to identify the reason for a long loading time, you have to sort the Pingdom &#8220;waterfall&#8221;, choosing &#8221;&nbsp;load time&#8221; from the menu.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/pingdom-order-load-time-2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Case Studies<\/b><\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Example 1, external widgets<\/b><\/h4><p><b>Loading time for my first case study was 4.75 s.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the first look at the Pingdom waterfall, I could immediately locate the cause of the problem. Read carefully the lines of this table :<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/widget-facebook-slow-down-wp.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you find it ?<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, you got it, this website is using an old &#8220;Facebook like box&#8221; integrated through an iframe. That\u2019s a real performance-killer for this site:<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/facbeook-like-box.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whenever you encounter a similar case, you should always ask yourself: which is the best choice for my users? Should I give priority to a widget for my Facebook page or should I provide a better user experience with a page that loads 3x faster?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why don\u2019t you substitute that widget with a visible link on the header of your site? If your theme includes some icon fonts like FontAwesome, you can obtain an attractive result without burdening your page with an image.<\/span><\/p><p><b>After this correction, loading time for this site dropped to 0.95 s.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are countless widgets using external scripts, for example the share buttons from Shareaholic, just to mention one.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these cases, not even a performance plugin like WP Rocket can work miracles to reduce the slowness of these external widgets. An upstream optimisation is fundamental to obtain the optimal performance.<\/span><\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Example 2, poorly coded plugins<\/b><\/h4><p><b>Loading time for this second case study was 2.88 s.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the Pingdom waterfall, I can see a script taking a lot of time to load. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/js-file-slow-down-wp-site.png\" alt=\"\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a movie, the script tells the actor what to do. With coding, it\u2019s the same: the script describes the process that should be executed. And sometimes, this can result in a huge load time and slow down your site. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instantly, I could identify which plugin is integrating the JavaScript through a poorly coded script: take a look at&nbsp;the URL : \/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/span><b>{plugin name}<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/js\/\u2026<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After some Google research, I found that this was a known issue for this plugin and it was solved with a plugin update. As an alternative, I could have removed the plugin and substituted it with another one. There are often multiple plugins offering the same solution.<\/span><\/p><p><b>After these corrections, loading time for this site dropped to 0.59 s.<\/b><\/p><p><b>Generally speaking,&nbsp;it&#8217;s a good practice<\/b><b>&nbsp;to review your WordPress plugins on a regular basis and deactivate any which are not really useful for your site\u2019s functioning.<\/b><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mysql\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. <\/span><b>Identify and get rid of slow MySQL requests<\/b><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>The tools<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many plugins that provide useful info about resource consumption:<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Query Monitor<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Debug Objects<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P3 Profiler (even if it seems abandoned by its author)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Slow MySQL queries<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before launching a complex website, it can be useful to run a diagnostic in order to verify we didn\u2019t invite any greedy plugin to&nbsp;our table.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the moment I\u2019m working on a site using WooCommerce and WPML together. Before activating WP Rocket, I&nbsp;ran a diagnostic with Query Monitor and I detected a few slow queries :<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/query-monitor-slow-queries-wpml-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/query-monitor-slow-queries-wpml-1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My feeling was right. It seems I forgot to make&nbsp;a few optimisations on theWPML side. I ended up&nbsp;deactivating some WPML options such as the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auto register strings for translation. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This allowed me to properly optimise WPML, so that all queries are executed&nbsp;in the most efficient way.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These kinds of optimizations will make your cache plugin run even more efficiently!<\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Allocated WordPress memory<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WordPress in itself is a relatively light CMS, but it can quickly become a resource hog&nbsp;once we install certain plugins. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By default, WordPress grants 40M of RAM memory for each process. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your site runs&nbsp;some advanced plugins, it will be necessary to increase the memory. To do this,&nbsp;you can add this line in your wp-config.php file :<\/span><\/p><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">define( &#8216;WP_MEMORY_LIMIT&#8217;, &#8216;128M&#8217; );<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your WordPress site will now be able to breathe. In any case, remember that, for optimal performance, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a reliable and well configured webhost is still fundamental.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the event that your dashboard is slow, you cannot expect WP Rocket (or any caching plugin) to help there since they do not cache the admin area. And yes, when we talk about optimising a website\u2019s loading time for all your visitors, we\u2019re also including your backend users!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have a sturdily built server, you can try removing all limits with something like:<\/span><\/p><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">define( &#8216;WP_MEMORY_LIMIT&#8217;, &#8216;512M&#8217; );<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">define( &#8216;WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT&#8217;, &#8216;1024M&#8217; );<\/span><\/i><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hosting\"><b>3. <\/b><b>Choose and optimise the best hosting for your site<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with good WordPress optimisation, the choice of hosting is equally fundamental. &nbsp;If you opt for a shared hosting plan with a low-cost provider,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you run the risk of being placed on a server where RAM and CPU are already over-stretched. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should choose a quality and finely optimised web host.<\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Use the latest hosting technologies<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, &nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyhoster.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the hosting company I use,&nbsp;Easy Hoster<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, provides&nbsp;<\/span><b>SSD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/span><b>LiteSpeed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s important to use recent technologies. For example, on other servers, I work with <\/span><b>Apache 2.4 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>PHP 5.6<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \/ <\/span><b>PHP 7<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>MariaDB 10.1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the database, plus <\/span><b>OPcache<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>PHP-FPM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><b>From our tests, we discovered that PHP suEXEC technology doesn\u2019t allow satisfactory results.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using reliable and updated hosting technology can give you performance that\u2019s 10-times better than the what you\u2019ll get with cheap, shared hosting.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have the chance to manage a server with a cPanel and an access root for WHM, you can select the configuration I\u2019m proposing here below with just one click!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everything runs under: WHM<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 Software \u2192 EasyApache 4.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/settings-server-easyapache4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And for the database: WHM\u2192 Software \u2192 MySQL\/MariaDB Upgrade.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/settings-server-mysql.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have doubt, contact your hosting. Every good web hosting company will be glad to help you configuring it. That\u2019s their job after all. \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Optimize your hosting as well<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the WordPress community, we insist a lot about the importance of running a good optimised website. Nevertheless, don\u2019t forget that it\u2019s equally important to also have an optimized web hosting.<\/span><\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Memory limit is applicable also to PHP <\/b><b><br><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the previous section&nbsp;we saw that you can increase your WordPress memory by editing your wp-config.php file.<\/span><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to make that edit useful, you should also allocate enough memory to the PHP as well.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many ways to modify the &#8220;memory_limit&#8221; for PHP.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example :<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insider your .htaccess file \u2192 add &#8220;php_value memory_limit 512M&#8221;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or inside the php.ini \u2192 modify the value of the &#8220;memory_limit&#8221; line<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the lucky owners of a WHM\/cPanel :<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inside WHM \u2192 Service Configuration \u2192 PHP Configuration Editor \u2192 Advanced Mode \u2192 Memory Limit<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or in WHM with MultiPHP INI Editor \u2192 Editor Mode<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or in the cPanel, if MultiPHP is enabled \u2192 MultiPHP INI Editor \u2192 Editor Mode<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If all this is already giving you headache, contact your hosting company, that\u2019s better. Besides, if they\u2019re not responsive to&nbsp;these kind of requests, maybe it\u2019s time to change your hosting! \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Don\u2019t forget to correctly activate Gzip compression <\/b><b><br><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people think to have Gzip enabled in their server, but I\u2019m not sure that checking a box in the dashboard is sufficient for that.<\/span><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is what cPanel users normally see:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We already know that checking the &#8220;Compress all content&#8221;&nbsp;box is not recommended.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Images, for example,have to be optimised with a different method, and not with Gzip. We\u2019re going to see that in chapter 5.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, do we compress only files containing a text? Yes! On the other hand, I think it\u2019s necessary to go a bit farther that the simple \u00ab text\/html text\/plain \u00bb. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give me your advice in the comment section if you\u2019re a web hosting expert &nbsp;\ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personally, this is what I set up in my hosting panel: <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/gzip.png\" alt=\"\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">text\/html text\/plain text\/xml text\/css text\/javascript application\/javascript application\/xhtml+xml application\/xml application\/rss+xml application\/atom_xml application\/x-javascript application\/x-httpd-php application\/x-httpd-fastphp application\/x-httpd-eruby image\/svg+xml<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later, in your WHM, increase the number of \u00ab pigz \u00bb process according to the number of CPUs of your server. Many people don\u2019t think about it and never do it. \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/Tweak-Settings-Number-of-pigz-processes.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Server optimisation deserves its own series of articles. I\u2019m not a master of Network Engineering so if you have any experience and feedback about that, you\u2019re welcome to join the discussion in the comments! \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cdn\"><b>4.<b>When and how should you use a CDN ?<\/b><\/b><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>What is a CDN?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A CDN, Content Delivery Network, &nbsp;is a network (of servers) designed to quickly deliver your content all around the world.<\/span><\/p><p><b>This image is useful to illustrate how it works: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the left : the origin server (in red)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Distributed from the extreme left to the extreme right: internet users from every continent<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between the two : servers acting as relays for static assets (JS, CSS, images) (in blue)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, you may have understood it now: since we\u2019re decreasing the distance between the visitor and the origin server thanks to the CDN, the content will be served much more faster. Exactly as if the path to walk was shorter.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/world-cdn-wp-rocket.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>When should you use a CDN ?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most common case is that you should use a CDN when your audience is international, that is, when your have visitors from every corner of the world.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your web server is in Paris but your traffic comes also from France, America and Asia,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your assets&nbsp;will have to make a very long intercontinental journey.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CDN is comprised of different remote data centers which are close to your visitors, and this will help accelerate&nbsp;the downloading of your webpage.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other reasons a CDN may be beneficial:<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce the load&nbsp;on your server <\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protect your server from DDoS attacks <\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allowing parallelized download of files<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have access to high performing server at a very reasonable price <\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obtain supplementary statistics about your traffic (proposed by many CDN offers)<\/span><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/google-core-web-vitals-wordpress\/\">Improve your Core Web Vitals<\/a> performance by <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/google-core-web-vitals-wordpress\/improve-largest-contentful-paint\/\">optimizing the LCP score<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision is yours. \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How to use a CDN: which one should you choose?<\/b><\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Jetpack Photon<\/b><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jetpack Photon, a free service from Automattic, &nbsp;describes itself as an image accelerator service. Its commitment: lower load&nbsp;on your hosting and faster images for your readers.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve been testing Photon for&nbsp;a few months on some of my sites, including my <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mister-wp.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog Mister WordPress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and I don\u2019t see any reason to deactivate it.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t have any problem with SEO on Google Images. My photos and illustrations are automatically resized according to the use I make of them on my site and to the user\u2019s device (i.e. Retina screens). &nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also value the fact&nbsp;that I\u2019m alleviating the load&nbsp;on my server! <\/span><\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Cloudflare<\/b><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CloudFlare works as a &#8220;reverse proxy&#8221;, masking the origin server\u2019s IP, and providing DDoS protection. Other features include:<\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">page optimisation features like minification&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">security features like detecting possible intrusions<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">free and automatic SSL certificate (like Let\u2019s Encrypt)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and of course, it works as a CDN<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cloudflare offers many of these services for free. There are pros and cons to using a service like Cloudflare. For example, if your site goes down, having an additional layer like Cloudflare makes it harder to troubleshoot &#8211; is the issue caused by Cloudflare? Or by your webhost? <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it can add some extra complexity, but you may find that the added speed and security makes it worthwhile. As with any tool, you should test it for yourself, since the effects will vary from site to site. If you don\u2019t see any real benefit, you can easily deactivate it. <\/span><\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>MaxCDN<\/b><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you wish to to use an alternative to CloudFlare while still keeping your budget down, you can have a look at&nbsp;MaxCDN.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This seems to be the go-to service when talking about paid CDNs. It\u2019s a traditional CDN service, which is different than Cloudflare. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This service will only make a copy of your files to help you deliver them faster. It can not really interrupt the access to your server since it will simply replace the URL of your resources (images, .js, etc.) and load them from the server closest to the visitor.<\/span><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"images\"><b>5. <\/b><b>Optimize your images for the Web<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is my last recommendation, but maybe the most important. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have an otherwise perfectly optimized website, but you don\u2019t optimize your images, it will remain as slow as a turtle.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not uncommon to see sites loading images weighing more than 1.5 MB. And don&#8217;t forget that <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/google-core-web-vitals-wordpress\/improve-largest-contentful-paint\/\">optimizing images helps boosting the LCP grade once again<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>To optimize an image, you should:<\/b><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/optimise-img1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resize the image and choose a good resolution. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Save the image for the Web.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/optimise-img2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compress the image without losing quality; for example you can use the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/imagify.io\/optimizer\/?utm_source=wp-rocket&amp;utm_medium=blog_link&amp;utm_campaign=mrwp_guestblog\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online tool Imagify<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The creation of a free account takes less than a&nbsp;minute.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/optimise-img3.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the level of compression you desire, your images could be up to 10 times lighter.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/1\/optimise-img4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If some of these steps seem annoying or complex, don\u2019t worry, Imagify&nbsp;has you covered.
